Water Quality Improvement Plans
Public Notices, Drafts, and Meetings

In the development of water quality improvement plans, public input is an important part of the process. Public meetings provide and opportunity for local stakeholders to participate in the plan. Local citizens and stakeholders can provide information or submit questions or concerns. This process assists the DNR in developing thorough and accurate plans.

Public meetings are conducted at least two times during the planning process, once at the beginning, and another when a draft document is available for review. At the introductory meeting, the DNR meets with Iowans to learn about problems and possible causes of those problems in a watershed of an impaired stream or lake. At final meetings, the DNR meets again with Iowans to gather their comments on the plan and discuss how locals can use the plan to create a local watershed improvement group and project.
