Climate Advisory Council to Discuss Policy Options to Reduce Greenhouse Gases

Policy options that may reduce statewide greenhouse gas emissions will be discussed Friday at the Iowa Climate Change Advisory Council (ICCAC) beginning at 9 a.m. at the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Air Quality Bureau, 7900 Hickman Road, Suite 1, Urbandale.

The council, at its February meeting, approved 55 possible options for reducing greenhouse gases with subcommittees working on further development of those potential strategies during the past two months. Most of the discussion on Friday is expected to be review of these potential policies.

ICCAC is the governor-appointed council created by Senate File 485 during the 2007 General Assembly charged with recommending short, medium and long term reduction goals, as well as developing multiple scenarios to lower statewide greenhouse gas emissions.

There will be opportunity for public comment at 10:30 a.m. and again at 2:15 p.m. The public may comment in person or by calling (800) 704-9804 and providing the operator with public conference code 484 447#.

The complete meeting agenda, background materials and directions to the meeting site are posted at http://www.iaclimatechange.us/capag.cfm.
