Energy and the DNR

Welcome to the Energy pages of the Iowa Department of Natural Resource’s Web site. Here, you will find the tools and information to learn about Iowa’s energy opportunities and to adopt smart energy practices.

The DNR helps Iowa citizens, businesses and communities create a cleaner environment and stronger economy through the sustainable use of natural resources. Energy efficiency and renewable energy development are two proven strategies for meeting that goal.

The DNR’s Energy and Waste Management Bureau is the state’s core agency for creating policies and programs that decrease its reliance on imported fossil fuels. Energy use also is tied to sound waste management practices. We develop educational, financial and public communication programs that reduce Iowa’s waste streams while making better use of energy resources.

The DNR is here to provide the assistance you need to protect Iowa’s environment and establish a strong economic future. Please contact us with any questions or ideas. Thank you for your interest and involvement.
