Shimek Forest Ponds

Located one mile east of Farmington.

Shimek Forest is located on Highway 2 near Farmington, Iowa. Four ponds are present in the forest area. Each pond can be found by getting a map of the area at the Forest Headquarters located about 1/2 mile east of Farmington on County Road, J56. The ponds all have steep slopes just under the water.

Bitternut pond is located north of Farmington on W46. This pond has a campground associated with it. It is seven acres in size and has a gravel boat ramp.

Shagbark pond is located on the east side of the forest area between County Road J56 and Highway 2. This pond is six acres in size and has a gravel boat ramp. There is a short walk to the pond from the parking lot.

White Oak pond is located north of Highway 2 about three miles east of Farmington. It is seven acres in size; a 1/2 walk along a trail is necessary to get to the pond.
