Outdoor Classrooms

Bernie the Fish Biologist An outdoor classroom session.

Fishery Management teams annually teach approximately 200 outdoor classrooms. These programs are presented at schools or other learning centers to increase the student's (of any age) knowledge of water, fish, and fishing. Specific topics can range from how we collect fish, to basic aquatic biology.

For management of Iowa's public waters for fishing, the Fisheries Bureau of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources has three separate programs that rely on each other to accomplish their tasks. The end result of this cooperation and individual responsibility is the most positive fishing experience possible in the Iowa public waters.
