The laws governing the operation of all-terrain vehicles, off-road motorcycles and all-terrain utility vehicles
will be changing effective July 1, 2007.
Safety training for all-terrain vehicle (ATV) users is a key factor in reducing accidents and injuries. In Iowa ATV riders between the ages of 12 and 17 are required to receive safety training before they are allowed to ride on public land or in one of our eight off-highway vehicle (OHV) parks.

Temporary OHV Park Closings
The Department would like to remind riders to check the website to determine if individual OHV parks are open or closed before they make the trip to the areas. All OHV park closings will be posted on the website, otherwise the park should be assumed open. During the spring, it is common for the Department to close the parks if the trails are too wet, creating maintenance or safety concerns.
Riders are encouraged to use extra caution when operating in the parks this time of year. It is common for trails to have debris, ruts, or unforeseen conditions following a long winter season. Trail crews will need extra time to bring the areas up to normal riding conditions. Please stay on marked trails and follow all posted signs.
For the most up-to-date park closings and information please visit the Iowa OHV Association's Website.
