Central Iowa Outdoors Without Limits Hosts Successful Duck Hunt
Central Iowa Outdoors Without Limits had a waterfowl hunt at Chichaqua Bottoms Greenbelt on Oct. 22, 2008. It was a Wednesday with very heavy rains and high winds. Eight brave disabled hunters and their helpers set out early on that morning to try their luck. This was the first waterfowl hunt Outdoors Without Limits had put on. Thanks to the Polk County Conservation Department and Doug Sheeley, Natural Resources Supervisor, who manages the Chichaqua Bottoms Greenbelt, for making this hunt possible. Five portable blinds were made and set out to accommodate wheelchairs and shooting while sitting down. Out of the eight hunters, three bagged birds. For Garfield Berndt from Newton, this was his first ever duck hunt and he bagged his first duck, a drake green-wing teal. By the end of the morning, everyone was wet and cold but had big smiles on their faces. Just being in the outdoors is what it's all about.
