Are you a mobility impaired hunter? Do you have difficulty successfully pursuing your hunting interests? If so, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources has a program that is custom-made for you. Two Huntmaster® elevated blind devices have been obtained through grants and are being made available to mobility impaired individuals who wish to hunt or view wildlife in Iowa. There are two of these devices in the state. They are stored and maintained at our Conservation Education Center at Springbrook State Park located north of Guthrie Center, Iowa.

The Iowa DNR only has two of these units, so use will be LIMITED. These blinds are being made available on a first come first served basis. Anyone wishing to use either of the blinds will be required to provide a "helper" to assist them. There is room in the device for a wheel chair-bound hunter and there is a small bench built in to accommodate the helper.
The Huntmasters are used most often during the Youth and Severely Disabled Season and the regular Shotgun Season. When you pick the unit up, someone will be there to instruct you in the proper setup procedures. The hunter will have to make their own arrangements to get the Huntmasters to the hunting location. The use of the Huntmaster is at no cost to the hunter, other than purchasing the required hunting/deer license. The hunter will be notified when they are successfully selected. Hunters will be limited as to the number of days of use.
These blinds are not heated but they do have tilt-out windows to reduce the effects of the weather and to provide for adequate firearm shooting clearance. Due to this limited clearance bows are unable to be used from the blinds. If a "helper" is not readily available, we will do our best to match you up with a WhiteTails Unlimited member or a certified Hunter Education Instructor. Please fill out the following information to request the Huntmaster® and good luck with your hunting/wildlife viewing!
