Wastewater Discharge in Wellsburg Due to Broken Sewer Main
Posted: May 12, 2008

WELLSBURG — A Wellsburg wastewater discharge began Monday afternoon during repairs to the city’s sanitary sewer system.

Untreated wastewater began discharging at 3:00 p.m. when a contractor installing a new sewer main broke the existing sewer force main. The wastewater is running into a drainage ditch, which flows to an unnamed tributary of South Beaver Creek.

The city is pumping wastewater to relieve pressure in the sanitary sewer, also allowing employees to make repairs to the existing line. The city does not know how much wastewater has discharged or when repairs will be completed.
