Pleasant Creek State Recreation Area - Ecological Management plan update
Progress continues on invasive clearing and planting of prairie. To date, Americorp and other volunteers,
in conjunction with the Iowa DNR, have cleared roughly 100 acres of varied woody invasive vegetation. This spring
sixty acres of short grass prairie and forbe mix was planted in these same cleared areas. Reintroduction and
maintenance of prairie will serve as a long term replacement of unwanted invasive species, as well as restore
Iowa's resource to its native form. Forty of the acres planted was done by Habitat Forever, a National Pheasants
Forever company, with contributions from the Iowa White Tails Unlimited, the Pleasant Creek Field Trial Association
and the Iowa DNR. The remaining twenty acres was planted with seed grown and harvested by the Iowa DNR Wildlife
Bureau and was planted by Americorps volunteers. Please contact the Park Manager at 319-436-7716 if interested in
volunteering at Pleasant Creek State Recreation Area.
