Iowa's Two Wheel Treks-Lake to Lake

Bicycle Route Description
The LAKE-TO-LAKE Bike Route connects Pine Lake State Park and George Wyth Memorial State Park. You will travel through the Iowa River valley and the lush and green rolling hills between Eldora and Cedar Falls/Waterloo. The length of this route is 50 miles.

Holland to Dike: you must back track .5 mile north on county highway T37.

Dike to George Wyth State Park through Cedar Falls: Co. Hwy D17 becomes 27th St.; turn right or south on Hudson Rd.; follow Hudon Rd to the beginning of Hudson Rd Bike Trail which leads to the Green Hill Bike Trail; turn left or east and follow the Green Hill Bike Trail for approximately 6 miles until it crosses the Cedar River to George Wyth State Park; follow the signs to the campground.

There are 25 miles of surfaced bike trails within the Cedar Falls/Waterloo metropolitan area and more are planned for completion in the future. City bike trail brochures are available by calling Cedar Falls Tourism Bureau at (800) 845-1955.

The trail head for the 52-mile Cedar Valley Nature Trail, which connects Cedar Falls/Waterloo with Cedar Rapids, is located on the southeast edge of Waterloo. Trail passes are required for users age 11 and older. Brochures are available by calling Black Hawk County Conservation Board at (319) 266-6813.

Overnight Vehicle Parking
Arrangements must be made in advance to leave your vehicle overnight in any of Iowa's state parks. Park rangers will direct you to the lot designated for overnight parking, generally a visitor parking lot adjacent to the campground.

Shuttle Service
Some bed and breakfasts, motels and park concessionaires offer shuttle service for gear or luggage at a nominal fee. Reservations for this service must be made in advance and some require a minimum number of persons.

Pine Lake State Park
Pine Lake State Park is located along Pine Creek near its confluence with the Iowa River. Pine Lake was the first lake built by the state and today the two lakes are a major attraction in the 572-acre park. The lakes were named because of the abundance of white pine trees, some of which are more than two hundred years old. Ten miles of hiking trails wind through the woods around the lake and a sandy swimming beach. The campground has 128 sites, with electrical hook-ups, and a shower/restroom. Family cabins are also available.

George Wyth Memorial State Park
George Wyth State Park is located on the Cedar River within the Waterloo/Cedar Falls metropolitan area. There are six miles of paved trails in the park with two connections to the metropolitan trail system.

George Wyth is unique in that it has several water areas: East Lake (120 acres), Fisher Lake (40 acres), Alice Wyth Lake (67 acres), the Cedar River and the 75-acre George Wyth Lake, which has a beach that is one of the most popular swimming spots in the area. The campground has 48 sites with showers and restrooms.
