IWE Frequently Asked Questions

Question 1: Why is it important for the Iowa Waste Exchange to know when I have made a successful exchange of materials?

Answer: The Iowa Waste Exchange has several measures of success. Some of the key measures include:

  • Number of exchanges facilitated.
  • Quantity of materials diverted from Iowa's landfills.
  • Cost savings and the type of material that was exchanged.
It is a benefit to the Iowa Waste Exchange Program to be able to record and report on the key measurement of successful exchanges of materials.

Question 2: What is the cost to post materials on the Iowa Waste Exchange?

Answer: There is no charge to post materials or use the searches available within the Iowa Waste Exchange. The Iowa Waste Exchange is part of and funded by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

Question 3: Once I put a listing in the Iowa Waste Exchange, how long will it appear online?

Answer: The listing will be online as long as you confirm that the materials are still wanted or available for exchange. You can contact the Area Resources Specialist in your area to update your listing.

Question 4: How are the listings updated?

Answer: Our goal is to contact each listing party by phone, e-mail, or fax at least once a year to verify that listings are correct and currents. Since this is not always possible, don't hesitate to contact the Area Resources Specialists in your area to confirm or update your listing.

Question 5: Does the Iowa Waste Exchange help in obtaining and transporting the materials listed?

Answer: Yes, but it does not provide transportation for clients.

Question 6: Is the Iowa Waste Exchange limited to Iowa?

Answer: Our website allows input from other states and encourages wastes to be exchanged in and out of Iowa.
