Price Creek Watershed Project to Hold Kickoff Event
Williamsburg, IA - The Price Creek Watershed Project will hold a project kickoff event on September 10 at 6:00 p.m. at the Amana Community Park located in Middle Amana. The purpose of the event is to invite watershed landowners and farm operators as well as the public to learn about the watershed, planned restoration efforts and how to become involved.

The kickoff meeting will highlight the priorities in the watershed as well as the goals and objectives of the project. Details of how and when the project will be completed as well as the different environmental and conservation oriented opportunities that will be made available through public hands-on workshops, field days, and project implementation will also be discussed.

Dr. Dick Schultz, professor of Natural Resources Ecology and Management at Iowa State University, will be the guest speaker for the event. Schultz is well known for his work with conservation buffer systems and stream corridor restoration projects. The evening will also feature a demonstration of a solar water pumping system utilized to provide alternative watering sources to livestock as well as a presentation from the coordinator of the Price Creek Watershed project. A meal will be provided by the Iowa County Cattlemen.

Landowners and farm operators in the Price Creek Watershed as well as others who are interested in learning more about the watershed and the project are encouraged to attend this important event.

Price Creek is a 13 mile long tributary of the Iowa River located in southeast Benton County and the northeast corner of Iowa County. The watershed is nearly 19,000 acres in size, beginning north of the town of Marengo and ending below the village of Amana where it flows into the Iowa River.

The project's watershed improvement efforts are being supported through funds from the Iowa Department of Agriculture's Division of Soil Conservation, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Section 319 program, the Iowa Watershed Improvement Fund, as well as the USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service.

For more information and to RSVP for the event please contact Aaron Pickens, project coordinator at 319-668-2359.

Desire to protect water quality leads to partnerships, funding for Price Creek
Price Creek appeared on Iowa's impaired waters list in 2004. The news looked grim for the 13 mile tributary of the Iowa River, but with word of two grant application approvals, Price Creek is restoring its beauty.
