Landowner/Tenant Registration
Welcome to the Iowa DNR's customer service page for
Landowner/Tenant (LOT) Registration. The primary purpose of LOT registration is to help ensure that LOT deer
and turkey licenses are obtained only by those who meet the qualifications
required for these licenses.
All landowners, tenants and
their eligible family members must register with the DNR before obtaining LOT
deer and turkey hunting licenses. The electronic licensing system will
not issue LOT licenses until you have registered.
NOTE!! - LOT registrations remain effective for 3 years after the date of registration. If you successfully
registered for LOT licenses in 2006, you will not need to register again until 2009 unless your eligibility,
or the information you originally provided, has changed.
To register for LOT licenses, you must follow the steps
listed below:
You must first verify your eligibility for
landowner/tenant licenses by reviewing the residency and
Landowner and
Tenant eligibility
requirements. If you meet these
requirements, you may proceed to step 2.
If you do not meet these requirements, you are not eligible to register
for LOT licenses.
2) Gather the information that will be required
during LOT registration. The minimum
amount of information you will need is as follows:
a) Your registration status: you must choose landowner, spouse of
landowner, child of landowner, or tenant, spouse of tenant, child of
tenant. You must choose only ONE.
NOTE: If your farm unit contains both owned and rented land, the
DNR suggests that you register as a landowner, spouse of landowner, or child of
a landowner. This is because of the
uncertainty associated with rented land.
The
following list of
Common
Landowner-Tenant Scenarios may help clarify your registration status.
b) If you register as a tenant, or spouse or
child of a tenant, you must also provide the name, address, and telephone
number of one landowner who owns a parcel of ground that you rent.
c) County Number and Parcel Identification
Number for a single parcel of land that qualifies you for LOT licenses. Both of these numbers must be provided for a
single parcel of agricultural land that qualifies you for a LOT license.
(See detailed instructions regarding parcel
identification numbers)
All family members of landowners must register using
the same parcel number as the landowner. Similarly, all family members of
tenants must register using the same parcel number as the tenant.
d) Your telephone number.
3) Choose your method of registration. The 2 options for LOT Registration are:
a) Internet Registration: Once you have completed internet
registration, you may obtain your LOT license(s) immediately at any ELSI
licensing location. The DNR encourages
internet registration because it is the quickest, easiest, and most reliable
form of registration. Internet
registration is the only option for individuals who wish to obtain their LOT
licenses quickly.
b) Mail Registration: After the DNR receives your mailed
registration form, up to 10 business days may be required for processing. If your form contains errors, the
registration process may be further delayed.
Forms and Instructions for mail registration are available at
ELSI
licensing locations, DNR Offices, or by calling the DNR at (515) 281-5918.
As you proceed through LOT Registration, please keep in mind
that this process is intended only for you to demonstrate your eligibility
for LOT licenses. To demonstrate your eligibility, you simply submit only
one form that contains all information requested, including only the one valid
parcel ID number that is required. You
DO NOT need to submit multiple forms for the multiple parcels that you may own
or rent. Once you have established your LOT license eligibility through
LOT Registration, you may obtain your LOT license(s) and hunt on any parcel of
land within your farm unit, regardless of whether they are owned or rented by
you.
Unless your eligibility changes, you will not need to
register again for 3 years.
